Underoos: Underwear That's Fun To Wear!
Many, many years ago, underwear retailers came up with a great idea. They decided to place popular comic book characters like Spider-Man, Superman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman as well as other well known television and movie characters on children's underwear - the most popular brand of which was Underoos
. I, vividly, recall, seeing Underoos commercials on TV and in comic books and other magazines in the late 1970's and early 1980's when I was a kid. And, I'm pretty sure that I wore them, at some point, too.
Underoos came in a vast array of designs and styles. I'm sure that even the pickiest of kids could find at least one set of Underoos that would appeal to them. That's why Underoos were so popular with kids in the 70's and 80's. And, that's what makes Underoos collectible items of pop culture history today.
As a kid and as an adult, my personal favorites are the superhero Underoos...
And, of course, the Star Wars themed Underoos are popular too...
But, the diverse variety of Underoos is what makes Underoos really cool...
Clearly, Underoos are great pieces of pop culture history and have collectible value. Comic book and superhero fans are obviously interested in obtaining Spider-Man and Wonder Woman Underoos. Similarly, Star Wars buffs would be happy to add R2-D2 and Hans Solo Underoos to their collections just as Barbie fans seek out the Barbie Underoos. I wonder if anyone has ever attempted to collect the entire series of vintage Underoos from the 70's and 80's. My guess is that there has to be some mad completist out there that aims to do just that. Heck, maybe it's already been done.
I have yet to see a complete verified list of vintage Underoos from the 1970's and 1980's. The Wikipedia page for Underoos has a pretty good list of Underoos, but I'm sure that it's incomplete and I'm definitely NOT sure how accurate it is. If I had the time to compile a verified list myself, I probably wouldn't. I'd rather spend my time exploring the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles wearing nothing but...
With that, I'm out. Enjoy!

Some are. But, I found a lot of this stuff on various blogs and web sites and decided to post it here simply because it's so cool.
