Bat-Mite
Bat-Mite
This Christmas, I received a copy of Batman #133 from 1960. Thanks Gary!!! The first thing that grabbed my attention was Bat-Mite on the front cover. It brought back memories of watching Bat-Mite in Batman cartoons when I was a kid in the 1970's. That's really the only time I ever experienced Bat-Mite. And, I haven't seen or even thought about Bat-Mite since then. That is, until now.

As it turns out, the first time that Bat-Mite appeared in the Batman title was in Batman #133. It was also the 3rd Bat-Mite appearance ever. After doing a little research, I discovered that Bat-Mite only made a dozen or so appearances in comic books prior to 1970. So, this was definitely a bonus. Plus, up until the moment that I received the book, I never saw a Silver Age version of Bat-Mite. So, it's safe to say that I was excited to check it out.

The Bat-Mite story is the 3rd story in the book. It starts out like this - Batman and Robin arrive at the Gotham railroad terminal to see Batwoman fighting with some crooks. The crooks throw Batwoman off the balcony. As she falls towards the information booth on the floor below, she suddenly begins to slow down and then bounces off the booth and slams into the crooks above knocking them to the ground. Wow! What a capture!

But, there's more to the sensational capture then meets the eye...

Bat-Mite in Batman #133

Batman then recalls an event in which Bat-Mite uses his mysterious powers to force Batman and Robin into spectacular stunts to capture some crooks. Bat-Mite sees it as good "FUN", but Batman and Robin don't see it that way.

Bat-Mite then reveals his intentions...

Bat-Mite in Batman #133

Knowing what kind of "fun" Bat-Mite likes to have, Batwoman rejects the idea immediately. But, Bat-Mite convinces Batwoman that he'll behave. So, Batwoman agrees warning him that if he acts up, he's gotta go. Batman and Robin don't buy it and warn Batwoman that she'll be sorry. But, Batwoman has made her decision and decides to give Bat-Mite a chance.

Later, Batman and Robin are patrolling Gotham in the Batmobile and hear a call on the police scanner that crooks have broken into the Ace Camera Company and are in the process of looting the safe. Batman and Robin are hoping that Batwoman and Bat-Mite didn't hear the call. After all, Bat-Mite may want to have some of his "fun" and unwittingly put Batwoman in a predicament. Batman and Robin jump into action and head over to the Ace Camera Company where they capture the crooks with ease.

At the same time in a nearby mountain pass, Batwoman is on the trail of two escaped convicts that are fleeing across a deep gulley on a monorail. Unsure as to how she's going to capture the convicts, Bat-Mite suddenly appears and has an idea. Bat-Mite removes the tires from Batwoman's motor bike leaving just the bare wheels. They then proceed to ride the bare wheeled bike on the monorail line, much like riding a single railroad track, straight towards the monorail to capture the convicts.

The next night, Batwoman and Bat-Mite are a crime fighting duo again. They've identified some crooks in the act and jump into action. Nervous, the crooks try to escape, but Bat-Mite uses his mysterious powers to make his fist enormous while punching the convicts into submission - Another awesome capture by Batwoman and Bat-Mite.

After hearing about it Batman and Robin are not really sure what to make of Bat-Mite's intentions. And, Batwoman has a little suprise for Bat-Mite...

Bat-Mite in Batman #133

Later, Bat-Mite is hopping and skipping with joy down a Gotham street sure that he's in love with Batwoman. He decides to use his powers to make Batwoman the "most sensational crime fighter of all" - Uh, oh. Sounds like Bat-Mite might be unwittingly misbehaving.

Bat-Mite jumps on top of a speeding police car to find out what's going on. It turns out that a gang of crooks just robbed the Gotham Bank. Bat-Mite schemes to tip off Batwoman and use his powers to help her capture the crooks. But, to make it look like she did it without any help, he plans to be invisible.

A short time later, Bat-Mite finds a shoe that he believes belongs to one of the crooks. He then pops over to the Bat-Cave to use Bat-Hound to pick up the scent of the crooks. In no time at all, Bat-Mite and Bat-Hound locate the crooks in a nearby warehouse. Bat-Mite calls Batwoman to alert her of what he discovered.
Batwoman arrives at the warehouse to find Batman and Robin also searching for the crooks. They decide to team up and solve the case - not exactly what Bat-Mite had in mind - Bat-Mite wants everybody to think Batwoman captured the crooks herself. So, Bat-Mite has a plan...

Bat-Mite in Batman #133

Tiny Batman, Robin, and Batwoman are now forced to put on a sensational show of crime fighting to capture the tiny crooks. Bat-Mite watches in joy of all the "fun" that's happening. He just can't get enough...

Bat-Mite in Batman #133

Seriously... a spanking?

Anyway, as it turns out, the normal sized Bat-Hound saves the day and blocks the crooks. Batman then asks Bat-Mite to restore them to normal size again so that they can finish the case and put the crooks away. Bat-Mite's not so happy with how everything went down, but he finally returns everyone to normal size.

Later, Batman, Batwoman, and Robin want to let Bat-Mite know just how much "FUN" they had...

Bat-Mite in Batman #133

Apparently, Batman was serious about the spanking
