Superman Peanut Butter

I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and collect Steelers memorabilia. About a year ago, I was in an antique shop and saw a jar of Terry Bradsaw's Peanut Butter from the 1970's, empty, of course. I immediately knew that I just had to have it. It's one of those cool nostalgic items that I love to get my hands on. I can't remember exactly how much it was - $10, I think. Needless to say, I bought it and I've had it on display in the Steelers section of my comic room since then.

I can't recall whether I ever ate Terry Bradshaw's Peanut Butter or not. I probably did. After all, I lived in Pittsburgh in the 1970's as a kid. So, I'm sure my mom fed it to me at some point.
Anyway, one day last summer, I was browsing around the Superman Homepage looking at all of the cool Superman related food items that were marketed in the past. I came across a jar of Superman Peanut Butter. Well, given the joy that I felt when I found that jar of Terry Bradshaw's Peanut Butter in that antique shop, I absolutely knew that I had to get my hands on a jar of Superman Peanut Butter - empty, of course. I became immediately obsessed and went straight to ebay and started searching. I found two items. The first item was a Superman Peanut Butter label. It was a "Buy It Now" with a price tag of $20. There was no way that I was going to pay $20 for just the label. In fact, I didn''t want JUST the label. I wanted the complete package. The other item was a complete Superman Peanut Butter jar with the label intact, but the label was ripped a little bit and the corners were coming loose from the jar - not exactly what I was looking for. That was also listed as a "Buy It Now" and the price was only $10. I made the smart decision and passed on that too, but I was still obsessed with locating a jar - in decent condition, of course.

For the next two weeks or so, I searched high and low for a jar of Superman Peanut Butter with little to no luck. I found a few jars, but either the price was too high or the condition was unacceptable. Then, one day, I found the object of my desire - on ebay, of course. Before my eyes was an almost perfect and very affordable specimen. A couple of clicks later and $20 or so poorer, the jar of Superman Peanut Butter was officially mine. Well, technically, it wasn't, officially, mine until the item shipped to my house. Three days later, a package containing the jar of Superman Peanut Butter arrived at my house. I anxiously opened the package and pulled the jar out to inspect it. The condition was even better than I had anticipated. I proudly set it it up on one of my display shelves in my comic room and rejoiced at my great victory.
Superman Peanut Butter
I'm proud of my Superman Peanut Butter jar, but, to be honest, I've looked at it just a handful of times since it arrived. In fact, I can't recall the last time that I actually looked at it. Perhaps, I gave it a passing glance, but it certainly didn't register in my brain. That is, until last night. I was in my comic room waiting for my computer to boot up and saw it. This time, I actually looked at it. Then, I picked it up and inspected it while I blew some dust off of the top of the lid and wiped it down with the sleeve of my shirt. Then, I proudly put it back where I had originally positioned it on the shelf when it first arrived many, many months ago. I went back to the computer to do some stuff and gave it one final look. Then, it hit me. I knew then that I had to do a post in honor of my Superman Peanut Butter jar that sits silently ignored while I become obsessed with other small victories.

Superman Peanut Butter jar, if you're reading this, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for you and I'll never, completely, forget about you. I'm just going to get right to it and say it...

I Love You. Superman Peanut Butter Jar
