I can't wait! It should be really, really good. It's WWII Cap - origin and early days. Now, I sort of hoped for a July 4th release - after all, it is Captain America. But, the official release date is sometime in late July - I think July 22nd. Close enough, I guess. Anyway, I'm surprised that Chris Evans was selected to be Captain America in the movie - the Human Torch from the Fantastic Four playing the WWII era Captain America - sort of odd. But, his acting style totally fits the Captain America character.
The movie covers the origin of Captain America - how and why Steve Rogers becomes Captain America - and Cap's early adventures during WWII. The plot is this: A young and patriotic Steve Rogers attempts to enlist in the military to fight for his country, but he is rejected due to his physical limitations. He then volunteers for a secret government research project that turns him into the ultimate combat soldier, Captain America. From what I've read, they actually had to make Chris Evans appear smaller than he actually is to authentically portray the puny Steve Rogers character in the beginning of the movie. But, when Steve Rogers becomes Captain America, he's not puny anymore. In fact, Chris Evans looks like he did some serious body building for the Captain America movie. Take a look... ![]() I suspect that the movie will also explain the origin of Red Skull. After all, in the comics, Captain America was created by the U.S. government as a counter to Hitler''s super villain, Red Skull. So, I hope the writers and producers have opted to tell the complete story of Red Skull. In my opinion, the Captain America story would be incomplete without it. Below are some more photos from the movie. From left to right, Chris Evans as Captain America, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, and Hugo Weaving as Red Skull... ![]() ![]() ![]() The movie is officially titled Captain America: The First Avenger. So, this movie is sort of a prequel to the Avengers movie due out in 2012 - in which Chris Evans also plays Captain America. ![]() ![]() ![]() Marvel Comics has released a trailer for the movie and a digital comic book here. For the complete cast and more information about the movie, go to the Captain America movie page at IMDB. ![]()
