Superhero Body Paint Costumes

Mystique from the new X-Men First Class movie due out later this year

A few weeks back, I featured a bunch of comic book themed costumes, mostly from ComicCon and other comic book conventions. This time around, I've decided to devote this rant to superhero themed body paint costumes. Some of these body paint costumes are excellent, some not, but most fall somewhere in between. In many ways, well done body paint art can be superior to traditional fabric based costumes. In the comic books, superhero costumes are almost always super skin tight. Nothing's more skin tight than body paint. Plus, liquid latex can really shine. So, if you're going for the skin tight and/or super shiny superhero look, body paint may be the solution. Captain America

This is one of the coolest of the male body paint costumes, Captain America...

Spider-Woman

IMHO, Spider-Woman is one of the coolest looking female superheroes of all time. So, I'm glad somebody got painted up as Spider-Woman, but this one's slightly weird looking to me - probably because the color of the dark pink bikini doesn't quite match the deep red body paint.

Punisher

Invisible Girl

Spider-Girl

This is my favorite female body paint costume. A sexy Asian Spider-Girl, awesome paint job...

Minimalist Spider-Girl

This girl took the minimalist approach to a Spider-Chick, but I have to admit, it is truly a good body painting job, among other things (*)(*). By the way, do you think she might be a little chilly?

Spider-Man

Clearly, costumes made of paint are just as good as, and sometimes, better than, costumes made of fabric. So, next time you're considering what to dress up as for Halloween or a comic book convention, remember that you don't necessarily need to wear anything at all. You can paint it on.
