Fat AlbertFat AlbertWhen I was a kid, I loved watching Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids on television. It was definitely one of my favorite cartoons of all time. The concept of the show was awesome - a cartoon about a bunch of black kids from the inner city and their various adventures and misadventures. The gritty inner city backdrop was very cool and I especially liked the junk yard scenes. What kid wouldn't like to wander around a junk yard? ...MORE>>>

Fat Albert

The opening theme to the show with a live action Bill Cosby and animated Fat Albert was always a pleasure to watch. Take a look...

Fat Albert and the GangBrown HornetAnyway, the show featured a superhero cartoon that Fat Albert and the gang just loved to watch on television. It was the Brown Hornet - an African American spinoff of the Green Hornet. For viewers of the show, it was a bonus - a cartoon within a cartoon that had its own story lines and characters. The Brown Hornet was an idiot of a superhero, but fun to watch nonetheless.

Fat Albert

About 6 years ago, I had to get surgery for a hernia. Of course, the surgery left me out of commission for a week or so. The entire time, I laid on the couch and did nothing but take painkillers and watch television. About the second or third day in, I noticed that the live action Fat Albert movie from 2004 was on pay per view. Well, I had nothing better to do; so, I figured I'd watch it. Of course, before I put it on, I took some more pain killers to improve my viewing pleasure. Obviously, I wasn't expecting a great movie with great acting, but I expected to be mildly entertained while I laid there high as kite on pain killers.

Fat Albert

Well, it wasn't top notch acting, but the movie was mildly entertaining - exactly as I expected - though I must admit that the pain killers probably helped keep me entertained. The real question becomes, did I think that the movie was good enough to watch again? No. But, if you've never seen it and have some pain killers and a little spare time, check it out. You will be mildly entertained.

Oh. And, at least there's a pretty face to look at. Dania Ramirez played one of the "real" girls that Fat Albert and company hung out with in the movie...

Here's a more recent photo of Dania...

So, that pretty much sums it up. The Fat Albert cartoon from the seventies was awesome. The Fat Albert movie from the 2000's wasn't great. But, since the movie has a pretty face and can be mildly entertaining on pain killers, it has some value. Anyway, nuff said about that.
