American Idol Style Fantasy Spider-Man Movie Cast Selections

I'm excited. A new Spider-Man movie is currently in production and will be in theaters in 2012. Although, everybody's calling it Spider-Man 4. It's not really the 4th in a series because it's a complete reboot of Spider-Man. We're not going to see Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man or Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson. It's an entirely new cast. Plus, the story goes back to the early years of Spider-Man when he was a teenager.

In my opinion, the producers chose an odd cast. Andrew Garfield is playing Spider-Man. I would have never even thought that he would be a candidate for the part. But, I guess he might work. Emma Stone will play Peter Parker's girlfriend, but not the redhead, Mary Jane Watson, as I would expect. Emma will be playing Gwen Stacy - the blonde. Who woulda thunk it? In fact, the Mary Jane Watson character isn't even in the movie. I guess that the story line for the movie predates MJ.

As it turns out, Emma Stone is actually a natural blonde which surprises me because I'm so accustomed to seeing her with dark red hair. When I saw her sporting blonde hair for the Spider-Man movie, I must admit, it looked a little weird to me at first. But, after a while, I got used to it and could see that she might be able to pull off the Gwen Stacy look.

It's worth mentioning a few other notable cast members. Martin Sheen will play Ben Parker, Peter Parker's uncle. Unfortunately for Sheen, he's not going to be in the movie for very long. In the comics, Uncle Ben was killed by a burglar very early on. In fact, Uncle Ben was killed in the same comic book that Spider-Man first appeared in, Amazing Fantasy #15. Sally Field will play May Parker, Peter Parker's aunt. I suspect that she'll deliver a perfect Aunt May character. Finally, Dennis Leary will play George Stacy, Gwen Stacy's dad. I'm actually happy that they chose to reboot the movie mainly because I was getting a little sick and tired of Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson. Let's face it. Mary Jane Watson is supposed to be a super hot party girl, model, dancer, and actress. Kirsten Dunst just didn't deliver that peppy character from the comics and she's not really that hot - not as hot as Mary Jane Watson is supposed to be.

To be fair to Kirsten Dunst, she did deliver a very cute Mary Jane Watson character. But, cute is not what MJ is supposed to be. MJ is supposed to sizzle and entertain. Of course, we did get, at least, one sizzling moment from Kirsten in the 3 Spider-Man movies she appeared in. A cleavage shot...

American Idol Style Fantasy Spider-Man Movie Cast Selections

In the spirit of good fun, I've selected some people that I would like to see play the leading roles in a Spider-Man movie - leading roles being Spider-Man and his love interests, Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson. Now, some of these folks may or may not be good actors/actresses and most of them would probably never appear in a Spider-Man movie anyway - for whatever reason. Remember, this a FANTASY selection. But, in reality, some of these people could work. Oh, and the judges for American Idol have agreed to help my make my selections.

Peter Parker (a.k.a. Spider-Man) Fantasy Selections

#3 Charlie Sheen as Peter Parker

O.K. - given Charlie Sheens current predicament, I had to go there. Plus, Charlie Sheen is too old to play Peter Parker on the big screen, but I've always thought that he sort of looked like Pete. Plus, his wife (now ex-wife) looks like Gwen Stacy. So, it's sort of a two-fer. Of course, it would probably take forever to shoot the movie with Charlie's infatuation with porn stars and crack cocaine. That doesn't change the fact that a younger Charlie Sheen would make a good Peter Parker. So, he's my #3 selection. I'll TRY to be a little more serious with the rest of the selections.

Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker

I know. I know. This one's not very original. But, Tobey was an awesome Peter Parker in all 3 Spider-Man movies and I would like to see Tobey continue playing Peter Parker in future movies. Unfortunately for him, the Spider-Man movie series is being rebooted with an entirely new cast. So, Tobey's days as Peter Parker appear to be over.

Jake Gyllenhaal as Peter Parker

While Jake may be a little too muscular for a young Peter Parker, he definitely has the build for a slightly older Pete. In fact, Jake looks like one seriously bad ass dude in the photo below. I definitely wouldn't mess with him.

The fact is, Jake Gyllenhaal would seriously rock the Spider-Man role. Not only does he fit the Peter Parker look, he's an awesome actor. Of course, he may be a little too cool to play a young, nerdy Peter Parker. But, given his acting skills, I'm sure he could easily pull it off. Therefore, he's my #1 pick for the role of Peter Parker.

Gwen Stacy Fantasy Selections

#3 Katie Cassidy as Gwen Stacy

Katie Cassidy definitely looks like Gwen Stacy - a lot - especially in these particular photos. However, I would have to agree with Gwen. I've seen other photos of Katie and she's just a little too thin and lacking the essential curves and boob size to deliver the sexiness of the Gwen Stacy character. Still, Katie's face and hair are nearly identical to Gwen's which is why she's my #3 choice.

#2 Ashley Hartman as Gwen Stacy

Ashley would definitely make a seriously hot Gwen Stacy. She's young and she's got the looks and curves to serve up Gwen Stacy as she should be. Plus, of the three selections that I've made, she's the only one with blue eyes - Gwen has blue eyes. While Ashely almost - and I mean almost - made it to #1, I just couldn't give her the #1 spot.

#1 Stacy Keibler as Gwen Stacy

I don't think Gwen liked what Spidey said about Stacy Keibler. But, much to Gwen's dislike, I agree with Spidey. I didn't hear any objections from Gwen. So, she might also agree. In my opinion, Stacy Keibler is definitely capable of delivering the sexiness that's required of a good Gwen Stacy character. And, for that, and that alone, she's my #1 pick.

Mary Jane Watson (a.k.a. MJ) Fantasy Selections

#3 Isla Fisher as Mary Jane Watson

Clearly, MJ doesn't like my selection, but I don't think it's a silly choice. Isla could make a good Mary Jane Watson. But, Isla is definitely not the best choice. That's why she's #3.

#2 Danneel Harris as Mary Jane Watson

Dannell is a real looker and would definitely make for a sexy MJ. But, Dannell's sexiness pales in comparison to my #1 selection. And, that's the only reason why Dannell is #2.
